The Sinking Bell Tower of Laoag

Laoag City's sinking bell tower is located at Laoag, Ilocos Norte.

The bell tower is located amidst commercial district of Laoag, and it is located about hundred steps away from St. William Cathedral.

Even if it is stands along commercial establishments it still stands attractive making those noisy trikes and establishments left ignored and what is only noticed is the majesty of this sinking structure.

The sinking bell tower presently standing at a a height of 45 meters and believed to be sinking for about 1 inch annually.

The Augustinians build this presently sinking bell tower on a foundation of sand in 1612.

The main door can accomadate a man sitting in a horse, but now since the tower sank, a standing man can no longer enter, except if he will bow a little and enter.

Based from my Cousin who's studying at Holy Spirit Academy which is located just beside the St. William Church, there is a tunnel from the church to get through to the Sinking Bell tower.

I asked her if people can still enter the Bell tower, but unfortunately she said, no one can no longer enter the bell tower except from the maintenance.

The more it sinks, the more it make its name "The sinking bell tower" eternal.
